Registered auditors, CAs clash
KATHMANDU, July 2
Representatives of the Auditors Association of Nepal (AUDAN) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal (ICAN) clashed on Tuesday leaving AUDAN President Mohan Rej Regmi injured.
The registered auditors, who were staging a sit-in in front of the ICAN Office in Babarmahal demanding that the policy of ”one person one profession” not be implemented, and the chartered accountants (CA) who are supporting the policy clashed. ICAN was also helped by the Nepal Chartered Accountant Students Association in the clash.
AUDAN has been staging a phase-wise protest from June 26 putting forth a 22-point demand. Vice President of AUDAN and coordinator of the protest programs Krishna Poudel said the auditors had to resort to staging a sit-in as repeated dialogue with ICAN did not make any breakthrough. “The students studying chartered accountancy attacked our president even as we were protesting peacefully. We will resort to more stringent protest programs from tomorrow if our demands are not met,” he added.
